Am I An Alcoholic? | Know What Is Alcoholism
What Is The Alcoholism?
Alcoholism is basically the person's dependence on the effects that alcohol brings. Also called alcohol dependence syndrome, alcoholism can begin with simple binge drinking and develop into full-blown alcohol dependency. Here are a few more facts about alcoholism that you might want to know about:
- Binge drinking is the first sign of a possible predisposition to alcoholism. Binge drinking is essentially the act of simply getting drunk, and this means around five drinks for men and four drinks for women on average.
- The next step when it comes to alcohol dependency is alcohol abuse. Alcohol abuse is usually the stage where a person discovers that problems are occurring due to their drinking but still they continue doing so. This is where neglect of home, neglect of self, and other similar problems occur.
- The final stage of alcoholism is the part where the drinker becomes dependent on alcohol. Craving and losing control of how much they drink and when they drink is part of this problem. When a person gets to this point, he will have such a high tolerance for alcohol that he will usually need to drink more to get the desired effect he or she is looking for.
