When you drink alcoholic beverages from time to time, it does not mean that you are already an alcoholic—an increased intake and a dependency on the substance is. Here are some of the symptoms that should alert you to the fact that you might be becoming an alcoholic:

  • You can start to recognize the signs of alcoholism with the frequency of your drinking sprees, how many drinks it takes for you to get the desired effect you want from alcohol, and your need to constantly have alcohol nearby.
  • When you find that you are changing who you are because of alcohol, chance are, you are becoming an alcoholic or are already one. Changes that can be seen include changes in demeanor, how you treat your friends, co-workers and family, and how you treat yourself as well.
  • When you start missing important events in your life or when you let yourself forget your responsibilities simply because you want to drink or are drinking, these are sure symptoms of alcoholism.
  • When you find yourself craving for an alcoholic drink when you first wake up and when you can think of nothing else but getting drunk, then you are definitely suffering from alcohol dependency.
  • People who do not realize the amount of alcohol they are consuming or have no control over how much alcohol they take are suffering from alcoholism or alcohol dependency.
