What Is Angina Pectoris | What Is Angina Pain

What is angina and why is it important that a person know if he or she has this problem? Here are some important facts about angina and who it affects:

  • Angina is actually more of a precursor to bigger problems with the heart than an illness in itself. This problem is called angina pectoris, which is a Latin phrase that means "constricting of the chest," which is what happens when a person suffers from an angina.
  • An angina or the tightening of one's chest happens when the oxygen supply that is carried by the blood to the heart is decreased. This can also happen when a person has insufficient blood flow to the heart.
  • An angina can be triggered by eating too fast, eating too much, or eating a rather large amount of food and getting angry or excited about something.
  • An angina can also occur when a person physically exerts too much in exercise or other physical activity. Sometimes when a person rests after he feels the tightening of his chest after some physical activity, the pain goes away. This is called unstable angina and may be a cause for worry since this kind of an angina means that one of the person's arteries may be very narrow.
