Bedwetting in Children | Bed Wetting in Adults | Help and Solutions

What is bedwetting and who does this often happen to?

Bedwetting is a common occurrence when it comes to children under 5 years of age, but this does not mean that adults do not suffer from problems with bedwetting. Here are more facts on bedwetting that you might want to know about:

  • Bedwetting is also known as nocturnal enuresis. Enuresis is also known as incontinence, and these terms mean the passing of urine or wetting and can come about either in bed during the night or in your clothing anytime of the day. Nocturnal enuresis happens in bed and at night, which is why the term "nocturnal" is used.
  • For children that are below 4 years of age, this problem is involuntary since they still do not have much bladder control. After the age of 4, when bladder control is already practiced, they can stop peeing involuntarily during the day but bedwetting may still need to be addressed.
  • While bedwetting does disappear eventually once the kid grows and learns to control their bladder even at night, around 1 percent of the population grow up to be adults with bedwetting problems.
  • The most common age when children usually stop bedwetting is at 7 although some children do stop earlier, like at 5 years of age.
