When a person suffers from burns, it can be superficial or it can be very serious. Burns are categorized according to degrees, and these degrees are often based on how deep and how serious a burn is. Here are some facts about burns:

  • Burns are classified in three degrees with first-degree burns being the least serious and third-degree burns being the most serious and the deepest of all three burns.
  • A burn occurs when a person’s skin is exposed to heat or electricity that causes it injury.
  • When a person gets burned, affected parts can include the surface of the skin, blood vessels, muscles, and bones.
  • First-degree burns affects the outermost layers of a person’s skin while second-degree burns affects deeper layers of the skin that are found under the epidermis. When you talk about third-degree burns, these are usually burns that affect all of the layers of an afflicted person’s skin.
  • When a person suffers from burns, he is not only affected by it physically but he is also psychologically and emotionally scarred by such a problem.
  • Every year, there is an estimated 2 million people who suffer from burns in the United States alone. About half of this number seeks medical attention with sixty thousand being admitted to hospitals for the severity of their burns and around five thousand dying from their burns.
