Prevention of Skin Chafing | Preventing Chaffed Skin Problem
Prevent Chafing:
- One way to prevent chafing is to wear clothes that are soft and gentle against the skin. Cotton is one garment that is cool and gentle on the skin, so wearing cotton socks will help prevent chafing in the feet. Moreover, because cotton is cool, it allows the skin to breathe freely.
- In the same token, avoid wearing garments made from fabrics that can cause scratching such as wool. Wearing them will increase the likelihood of developing chafing. Moreover, the choice of footwear should take into consideration padded interiors as this will help prevent abrasions due to friction.
- Another way to prevent chaffed skin is to apply petroleum jelly and other lubricants in areas that are exposed to frequent friction. However, once the skin has been irritated, be careful in choosing the jelly to apply because there are some jelly products that can cause further infection.
- Another way to prevent skin chafing is to dust areas where friction is frequent with powder such as corn powder. This will make the skin slippery, resulting to a reduced friction. However, just like with applying jellies and creams, care should also be taken when applying them because there are some commercially sold powder which contains allergens such as the materials used to infuse fragrance to the powder.
