What Is Earache?
Earache is the general term used to refer to pain or ache in the ears. The main criteria for an earache to be considered as such is that the pain must originate from inside the ear and not from the outside. In scientific circles, the condition is known as otalgia.- A common misperception of most who suffer from earache is that the ache is due to a disease. This may be true, but it does not apply to all cases of earache.
- There are many other causes of earache other than ear infection such as the growth of a new tooth, impacted teeth, disease in the sinus, an inflamed tonsils, and infections in the pharynx and the nose.
- Earache can affect all persons of different ages. Although it is not a serious condition, it should be dealt with immediately because it may cause further infection.
- In most cases, the problem is truly annoying and can bother the day-to-day activities of those who suffer from the condition.
- Tracing the cause of earache is fairly easy if the history of possible causes can be established. For example, if a person experienced physical trauma due to accident, then it is possible to conclude that the trauma from the accident caused the earache.
