Fungal Infection of Skin | Fungal Skin Infection Types
What Is Fungal Infection?
Fungal infections can affect a lot of different parts of a person’s body and can be either easy to treat or difficult to treat, depending on the kind of infection one has and the severity of such an infection. You can find fungal infections in your hair, in your skin, and in your finger and toenails.- Some of the more commonly known fungal infections that infect a person’s skin include athlete’s foot, ringworm, jock itch, and candida.
- You can distinguish skin fungal infections from other fungal infection types by their scientific names since these are mostly given the general term “tinea” at the start. For example, athlete’s foot is tinea pedis, and ringworm is called tinea corporis.
- Other fungal infections can be found in nails, and these are called onychomychosis. These fungal infections can be found on toenails and fingernails, although this fungal infection is more likely to occur on a person’s foot than on his hands.
- Fungal nail infections are more prevalent in people who are aged 60 and above, but everyone is still likely to get these infections if the conditions for having them are present. Children however rarely get these fungal nail infections.
