What Is Insomnia?

If there is one sleeping problem that a lot of people suffer from at one time or another, it is insomnia. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder where sleeplessness or difficulty in keeping one’s self asleep is the major problem. While insomnia may be considered by a lot of people as the illness, it is actually just a symptom or indicator of other problems.
  • There are a few distinct types of insomnia, and these are categorized according to how long this problem has been going on. Chronic insomnia lasts for more than three weeks, short-term insomnia lasts for one up to three weeks, and transient insomnia can last for less than a week.
  • Insomnia is a very common problem that can affect anyone at any age. Women are more prone to insomnia than men, and the rate at which they have this problem seems to increase with age.
  • Those who stand a higher chance of having insomnia include people who are in the lower income bracket of society, mental health patients, and alcoholics.
  • If a person does not treat short term bouts with insomnia, they stand a huge chance of having this develop into the more serious chronic insomnia.
