What Is Lice?
Lice are actually parasites that live on the surface of a person’s skin, and these parasites feed on the blood of their hosts. There are a number of different kinds of lice that can live on a human body and these include head lice, body lice, and pubic lice.- These creatures are wingless parasites that crawl to and from their hosts.
- These little parasites are six-legged creatures that lay eggs called nits, and they often lay around three up to eight of these eggs in one day. Head lice lay eggs on your scalp and in your hair, pubic lice or crabs lay their eggs in your pubic hair, and body lice lay their eggs in the clothes that you wear.
- All of these different types of lice are spread or contracted by close physical contact or by using items that belong to people who are infected with these parasites.
- Female lice can lay up to 300 eggs in their entire life, and the incubation of these eggs can take between 5 to ten days, depending on the presence of heat.
- These parasites are small flat creatures that grow up to 4 millimeters in length and are gray in color.
