What is Low Blood Pressure | What is Hypotension or Low BP

Low Blood Pressure Information:

Also called hypotension, low blood pressure happens when a person suffers from the low flow of blood. This rather low pressure of the blood that flows through a person’s arteries and through his veins may damage organs permanently. This is due to the inability of the blood flow to get the oxygen and nutrients that these organs need to them. When this happens, they don’t function properly thus the propensity towards permanent damage.
  • Low blood pressure is often seen with a systolic/diastolic reading of 100/60 since the normal blood pressure is often seen at 120/80.
  • While the 100/60 reading may read as low blood pressure to people who are of normal height and weight, this may be the normal blood pressure of people who are petite or are built smaller.
  • It has been noted that low blood pressure is not much of a problem if all the organs get the much-needed nutrients and oxygen needed to function properly. It is only when certain organs do not get enough blood that problems are perceived.
  • Sudden drops in blood pressure are very dangerous and may even be fatal or life threatening. These sudden drops in pressure are often brought about by allergic reactions, severe infections, or uncontrolled bleeding.
