What Is Malaria?
Malaria is an illness that is caused by a parasite and is an infectious one at that. This ailment has been around for a very long time and shows that it has been plaguing mankind for thousands of years. This ailment is pretty much gone when it comes to countries like Russia and the areas of North America and Western Europe but is still considered a problem in a lot of subtropical and tropical areas.- A million people are said to die because of this disease with millions more afflicted by it every single year.
- Even though the U.S. is basically free from this disease called malaria, there are still cases by the hundreds that are being reported by hospitals in the U.S. This is due to the fact that these people were abroad recently and in countries where the disease still exists.
- This disease is transmitted from person to person by mosquitos and is caused by the Plasmodium genus parasite. This ailment can come from four species of this parasite: the plasmodium falciparum, plasmodium vivax, plasmodium malariae, and the plasmodium ovale. The falciparum species of this parasite is the deadliest of all four, although the others can still cause a person to get really sick.
