Measles is an ailment that is often seen in children but may affect adults who have no immunity to it as well. This ailment is caused by a virus and can be had two ways. There is the measles that is caused by the rubella virus, and there is the one that is caused by the rubeola virus.- The measles that is caused by the rubella virus is often called German measles. Also called the three-say measles, the person who gets this kind of an ailment suffers from rashes and a fever but at a milder degree.
- The rubeola-virus-caused measles is the one that is called hard measles or red measles. The person who has this problem often shows similar symptoms as German measles; however, this type of measles may make a person prone to such complications like encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and pneumonia.
- While measles can be avoided with the use of a vaccine, and most of the U.S. is protected by such a vaccine, isolated cases still exist in this country.
- The viruses that cause these two different types of measles can be transmitted through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
