Oily Skin

There are many causes of oily skin. It may be hereditary, and is often associated with adolescence and pregnancy because of shifting hormone levels at these times. Sometimes humidity and hot weather is enough to increase oil levels in the skin.

It’s important not to wash the oily skin too often. Washing stimulates oil production, so you will end up with a worse problem than before. Limit washing to two or three times a day.

Avoid alcohol-based cleaners or lotions as they will cause the skin to become flaky. Instead, opt for a mild pure soap, and use hot water to dissolve the oil as you are washing the skin.

After washing, massage your face with the fingertips using a circular motion. Then apply an oil-free moisturizer.

Once or twice a week you can apply a mud or clay mask to your oily skin. This will absorb any extra oils and deep clean the pores that may have become clogged.

Oily skin can also be helped with milk of magnesia. Apply to the skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. The magnesium absorbs oil while disinfecting the skin.

Oily Skin and Diet

As with oily hair, oily skin can benefit from certain vitamins and minerals in your diet. Vitamins B2 and B5 are both useful supplements for oily skin. They are present in organ meats, wheat germ and nuts.

Reducing your fat and oil intake will help your oily skin. Avoid fast foods, deep-fried foods, as well as animal fats. Your diet should have plenty of leafy vegetables and fruits. Keep away from alcoholic beverages and caffeine.

There are a few other things you can do to promote healthy skin. Avoid smoking and get plenty of exercise and sleep. Brush the skin on a regular basis to remove old skin cells and stimulate new growth. All of these things will help you maintain a healthy glow and protect against oily skin.
