Night sweats is medically known as sleep hyperhidrosis. People suffering from this disorder wakes up from a deep sleep with an extremely hot or cold feeling, sweating excessively, and clammy. Profuse night sweats are not harmful, but they are symptoms that you are suffering from another condition. Night sweats can be rather annoying as they almost always disturb one’s sleep and eventually bring about stress and insomnia.
Causes of Heavy Sweating While Sleeping
What causes profuse night sweats? The following may be the causes of the condition:
- Menopause/Andropause. Most women experiencing night sweats are suffering from hormonal changes.
- Illness and Infections. The classic cause for night sweats are diseases such as tuberculosis and bacterial infections. HIV infection, inflammation of the bones, and cancer are other possible triggers.

- Vitamin E intake
- Natural progesterone cream
- Avoid eating spicy foods and drinking any caffeinated or alcoholic drink at least 3 hours before bedtime.
- Avoid any exercise, smoking, or drinking of hot liquids within 3 hours of going to bed.
- Avoid hot tubs or Jacuzzis before bedtime.
- Keep the bedroom at a cool temperature.
- Wear light bed clothing.
- Try herbs such as elder, violets, or chickweek to lower and regulate the body temperature.
- Drink cool water before going to sleep.
- Consider taking a cold shower before sleeping.
