Essential Amino Acid Deficiency

Essential amino-acids are also referred to as indispensable amino-acids, which can’t be synthesized within the human body. For this reason, the diet should supply adequate quantities of these amino-acids in order to prevent any of the deficiency disorders. The list of essential amino-acids include Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan,Valine, Histidine, Tyrosine and Selenocysteine.

Amino acids act as building blocks for proteins which are necessary for hormones, neurotransmitter, muscle tissue, etc. Deficiency of Amino acids is associated with chronic ailments including “chronic fatigue syndrome”.

The symptoms associated with Amino acid deficiency include,

  1. Nervousness and anxiety
  2. Exhaustion and weakness
  3. Dizziness or light headed ness

These are some of the leading symptoms associated with the deficiency disorder. However, it may present in the form of breathlessness, gastrointestinal distress, nausea, vomiting, etc. In severe cases it may result in sluggishness and obesity due to reduced metabolism in the body and can also cause mental retardation and brain damage.

Amino Acid Deficiency Diseases Treatment

A well balanced diet, rich in proteins has been found to be effective for the treatment of amino-acid deficiency.

Include legumes, pulses, egg, fish, lean meat, milk and other dairy products in your diet. Also include green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits in your diet. Ideally an adult with a body weight of 70 kgs would require 70 grams of proteins each day. Excessive intake of protein is also associated with several complications hence it is critical to ensure that the diet is well balanced.
