Invisalign Braces Pros and Cons: Advantages & Disadvantages of Braces

Invisalign Braces Pros and Cons

Invisalign is a dental alignment procedure that uses transparent aligners to treat the patient’s condition. Thus, it is easy to see why this is very popular, especially among adults as braces are often associated with kids and adolescents. Still, it is best to understand the pros and cons of the procedure to make an informed choice.

Invisalign Braces Pros and Cons

The following are the advantages of Invisalign over traditional metal braces:

  • Invisalign is transparent and is, therefore, “invisible”. This feature makes it preferable over metal braces because the wearer appears to be wearing nothing at all, projecting the illusion of perfectly aligned teeth even when they aren’t aligned yet.
  • It is removable so that the patient can enjoy eating food without the cumbersome feel of the fixed metal braces.
  • These removable aligners have less impact on the gums and supporting tissues, minimizing side effects on these soft tissues.
  • Invisalign also provides quicker treatment compared with traditional braces.

The following are the disadvantages of Invisalign over traditional metal braces:

  • Invisalign has to be removed before eating or drinking.
Then, the teeth and the aligners should be cleaned before using them again. Because of this, the wearer should a lot time to clean the aligners. This also makes misplacing them very easy.
  • These are more expensive than metal braces.
  • The efficacy largely depends on the habits of the wearer. If the wearer does not use the aligners for the prescribed length of time, these will not work well and could prolong the treatment.

How To Clean Invisalign Braces

  • Use denture cleaning products or baking soda on the braces.
  • Soak the aligners in the solution for about 1 hour.
  • Use a soft toothbrush to brush the aligners and remove any particle left behind.
  • Rinse thoroughly.
