The mineral iron is required in our body to produce red blood cells. Deficiency of iron results into a condition called iron deficiency anemia. It can be due to poor intake of iron containing food or problem in the absorption of iron from the intestine or blood loss.
Iron is better absorbed in ferrous (fe) form than in the ferric form.
Slow fe iron supplements are available in tablets and capsules, they have better absorption rate in the intestine in contrast to immediate release iron supplements. This is so because iron released from slow fe iron supplement is gradual for a period of time.
Whenever you take iron supplements inform your doctor if you are allergic to any iron products, either oral or parenteral.
Side effects of slow fe iron supplements is less than immediate iron release supplements. This is because of its controlled delivery system.
