Cinnamon Benefits for Diabetes, PCOS and Weight Loss

Cinnamon is obtained from the bark of evergreen trees found elsewhere in the world.  There are two types of cinnamon commonly known as the ceylon and cassia grown in different sides of the globe.

Ceylon is commonly found in South America, Southeast Asia, and in the West Indies.  Cassia, on the other hand, is found in Central America, China, and Indonesia.

It can be in the form of sticks or quills, which are rolled dried bark of the cinnamon. It can also be ground cinnamon.

Recent studies conducted by several medical researchers have observed the benefits of cinnamon to patients with other known diseases such as type 2 diabetes, and other similar insulin resistance diseases.  It has, likewise, the ability to reduce blood sugar, which makes it a great help in the fight against “prediabetes,” and the “Metabolic Syndrome.”

Cinnamon has been discovered as having medicinal value long time ago.  In Ancient China, Egypt, and India, cinnamon has been used for digestive problems like indigestion, gastrointestinal problem, stomach aches, and diarrhea, as well as other illnesses, i.e., treating ailments of the fingers and toes, including arthritis and athlete’s foot.

It may be rightfully assumed that cinnamon is helpful for PCOS.

To further support such findings, a recent medical study conducted on 2007 by researchers at Columbia University showed the beneficial effects of cinnamon on women diagnosed with PCOS and the results indicated a reduction in insulin resistance. This regular intake of cinnamon by women diagnosed with PCOS would be beneficial since cinnamon is considered as an antioxidant preventing the break down of cells due to oxidation.

There are also other benefits of cinnamon for women such as the following:

  • It has been medically observed that cinnamon has been found useful since it provides relief for women experiencing menstrual cramps and other feminine discomforts.
  • In a way, it is used as a natural birth control since it delays the menstruation of women after the delivery of the child when cinnamon is regularly consumed.  Hence, avoids the conception of another child.
  • It helps in the discharge of breast milk.
