I have a blocked nose continuously which is worse when I am in a warm heated room and best when I am outdoors! Any ideas as to cause?
Blocking of nose is the sign of allergic rhinitis or sinusitis. Is the blocked nose associated with headache? Do you have plugged ears along with the nose block? How often do you suffer from this problem?
Causes of Blocked Nose
It is important to understand that rhinitis or sinusitis is caused due to frequent change in environmental temperature.
- Steam inhalation with a pinch of salt will help in opening up the nostrils. Steam inhalation helps in softening the nasal mucosa and aids in reducing localized congestion
- Avoid frequent temperature changes. Avoid making the room too warm or too cold in comparison with the outside temperature.
- Also ensure that the room is ventilated, at least for a few hours during the day. The air that we breathe contains several microorganisms and there is constant need for fresh air, as stagnant and warm air can promote the growth of these organisms.
- Frequent use of nasal decongestants can also affect the body’s ability to heal itself. Ensure that you keep the use of nasal decongestants limited to extremely distressing situations
