What are the indications that a person has bronchitis? How can you tell that what you are going through is indeed bronchitis and not some other lung problem? Here are some symptoms that may point you to conclude that you do have bronchitis:

  • Usually acute bronchitis happens after a person has had a bout with a cold, the flu, or a sinus infection.
    Any of these upper respiratory infections can bring about bronchitis.
  • Some of the more common symptoms of bronchitis include slight fever or fever with chills, nasal congestion, aching muscles, and a sore throat.
  • Coughing is one of the telltale signs of bronchitis. The cough you have when you are suffering from bronchitis can either be dry or have phlegm. Production of phlegm when a person has bronchitis, when produced in significant amounts, can mean an infection in the lungs or the lower respiratory tract which can then indicate a possibility of pneumonia.
  • Wheezing or difficulty in breathing can also be a symptom of bronchitis due to the inflamed airways.
  • When a person has bronchitis, he or she may expect to have a cough that will last for around a couple of weeks.
    When forceful coughing is present, a person may experience chest wall injuries or soreness in chest muscles.

Acute Bronchitis Symptoms

Fever, chills, muscle aches are common signs of acute bronchitis occurring after upper respiratory infection. Dry cough or phlegm creates soreness in the abdominal muscles, nagging cough lasting for several weeks, whitish or gray yellowish sputum production are other indications.

Chronic Bronchitis Symptoms

Signs of chronic bronchitis are different in different people. Common indicators are breath shortness, excess sputum production due to scarred bronchial tubes occurring due to inflammation, wheezing, discomfort feeling in the chest, recurring respiratory infections, difficulty in breathing.
