Cholera Patient Diet | Foods to Cure Cholera Disease

Cholera Diet Treatment:

Any diet for cholera patient should be aimed at minimizing the debilitating effects of dehydration. This is especially true in order to allay the loss of body fluids and salts from the body. When giving a person some liquid to quench thirst, make sure to give it only in small quantities.

This is because anything that is taken internally may be vomited by the patient. Giving the liquid in small quantities will allow it to stay longer in the stomach. In turn, every additional minute in the body means more absorption for the body. In some instances, a person is given ice to suck. Ice has a two-pronged benefit in that it helps reduce internal temperature while minimizing the tendency to vomit.

A day’s diet for cholera patient should consist of the following:

  • Upon arising, the patient should drink a glass of lukewarm water with a fresh lime along with a teaspoon of honey.
  • For breakfast, diet should consist of fresh fruits and a glass of fresh milk with honey or buttermilk as sweeteners.
  • For lunch, a patient should eat steamed fresh vegetables, wheat tortilla with butter, and a glass of buttermilk.
  • For dinner, diet should consist of fresh vegetable salad in limejuice dressing and a glass of buttermilk.
