A common cold wherein the symptoms are more pronounced in the face and head region is often called a head cold. The common cold is a very common infection of the upper respiratory tract, cause by the common cold virus. Allergies, pollution and stress worsen the condition.

These home remedies promise to reduce the frequency and intensity of the common cold and its related symptoms.
- Limes: limes are the most effective head cold remedy. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime, add 1 spoon of honey and a glass of water. Limes supply vitamin C, a powerful infection fighter and immune booster. You may also take vitamin C supplements for 15 days.
- Garlic: is another very effective remedy for colds and infections. It is known as the most potent infection fighter. Have hot soup with lots of crushed garlic, 2 to 3 times, daily.
- Ginger: ginger tea in a wonderful remedy too. It is an anti inflammatory agent that reduces inflammation and swelling. Alongside, it also aids in mucus drainage. Boil grated ginger in a bowl of water and consume the decoction, thrice every day, at least for 3 days.
- Eucalyptus oil: this essential oil has been used time and again for managing head colds. It provides spontaneous relief, eases headache and helps in mucus drainage. Dab a few drops of the eucalyptus oil on to a tissue and inhale through the day.
Natural Cures For Common Colds
- Steam: steam inhalation is an effective way to clear up the sinuses and ease mucus drainage. You may also add about 3 drops of eucalyptus oil to the water, and inhale the vapors, for speedy amelioration.
- Cinnamon: powdered cinnamon with honey, taken daily, is effective too.
- Sage: sage tea helps relieve inflammation within the nose and throat. Consume the tea every day. You could also gargle with hot sage tea, to disinfect the mouth.
In addition to the above mentioned remedies and cures, ensure that you do the following:
Stay well hydrated. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids, so that the mucus stays moist and can clear out. Steer clear of fluids such as, caffeine or alcohol; they both have dehydrating effects.
You could also use a humidifier while sleeping. Breathing is a lot easier if you prop up the head against the pillows. This reduces congestion and facilitates drainage of the mucus.
Symptoms Of Head Colds
The common manifestations of head colds are constant sneezing, itching around the nose, running nose and nasal blockage. Some people also complain of an itchy, sore throat, mild fever, watering of the eyes and body ache.
The headache may be mild with a feeling of fullness and heaviness. Fatigue and weakness is common too, especially, if the complaint is associated with fever.
