What Causes Dark Circles Under Eye

What are the main causes of these dark spots under and around your eyes? One of the main culprits is lack of sleep. People who do not get enough sleep and are constantly lacking sleep find themselves with dark circles that go darker and darker the longer they go without proper sleep.

Here are a few more causes for this problem:

  • The sun can actually cause those dark circles around and under your eyes. Since the skin around your eyes are often more sensitive than other parts of your face, the tendency for the area around your eyes to darken faster is there.
  • Sometimes not eating the right thing can bring out the dark circles under your eyes. Antioxidant-rich foods should be part of your everyday diet to help keep these dark circles under your eyes from happening.
  • While some people are blessed with good genes, some people have to live with genes that give them these dark circles around and under their eyes.
    Heredity does play a part in this problem. If one of your parents or both of them had dark circles under their eyes, it is highly likely that you will have them too.
  • Sometimes allergies can also cause these dark circles to appear. Other factors that can be blamed for this problem also include an unhealthy lifestyle and aging.

Since skin below eyes is very thin and delicate, medicines having property of dilating blood vessels can make skin under eye darker. Diet lacking essential nutrients like minerals and iron also contribute to under eye discoloration. Causes of dark circle in women are pregnancy, extreme fatigue and menstruation. Old age is also a reason for discolored eye because of collagen loss in skin which makes eye thinner and translucent.
