Diabetes Mellitus Symptoms

While both main diabetes types have some symptoms that differ from each other, there are some common symptoms that they do share. Here are some of those symptoms of diabetes mellitus:

• Diabetes sufferers may show symptoms that include fatigue or being constantly tired despite their not doing anything tiring or strenuous.
  This is due to the body’s inability to convert food to energy, which is what fuels the body to be active.
• Some people who suffer from diabetes suffer weight loss that cannot be easily explained. Despite how much they eat, since this illness makes the body unable to process the food that is being eaten, a person loses weight.
• One telltale sign that a person has diabetes is when a wound takes longer than normal to heal. This is because of the inability of white blood cells to defend the body properly.
• Some of the excesses that a diabetic person suffers from include an excessive need to urinate, the excessive need to drink water or being thirsty all the time, and the excessive need to eat.
• Other common symptoms that diabetes sufferers may display include altered mental state, frequent bouts with infections, and blurred vision. The altered mental state of a person with diabetes often manifests itself as confusion, lethargy, irritability, or lack of attention.

Type-1 Diabetes Symptoms

Type-1 diabetes signs are frequent urination, dryness in the mouth, increased level of thirst and fungal skin infections, increased tiredness and blurred vision. In women there is development of bladder infections.

Type-2 Diabetes Symptoms

Signs of type-2 diabetes are wounds taking more time to heal and resistance to infections is reduced, there is an increase in hunger and in some people skin darkening, and folds or creases on body are seen. There is a stinging pain and sometimes numbness in hands and feet. Gums may become tender imposing infection risk.

Gestational Diabetes Symptoms

Signs observed in women with this condition are excess weight gain and recurring infections and increased need to urinate.
