You can wear a perfect fitting dress, lose weight if you are obese and put on a fabulous makeup to impress someone. But all your efforts are ruined once you open your mouth for a smile or to talk when you have brown spots on your teeth. You may not like to have brown spots on teeth especially when you want to look your best.

Neglecting oral health is the main reason for brown spots on teeth. Besides this brown spots on teeth have several other reasons. Just like any other health problem, staining on teeth has to be dealt seriously, ignoring it may cause lot of damage to your teeth.

Brown spots on teeth can occur in children as well as adults.

  • Brown spots in children:  can be due to external sources such as dietary habits, plaque and debris, certain tonics, especially those that contain iron. Poor oral hygiene.

  • In adults the main reason for brown spots on teeth is due to chain smoking. The smoke causes deposition of the chemicals on the teeth which makes them brown after some time.
  • If you drink coffee or tea in excess for several times in a day you may be predisposed to brown spots on teeth sooner or later. Same is the case if you are habituated of soft drinks.
  • Not cleaning teeth regularly and neglecting dental health is the main reason for brown spots on teeth in adults.
  • Intake of certain antibiotics is known to stain your teeth brown or discolor your teeth.
  • Chewing of tobacco.
  • Heredity.
  • Radiation
  • Excess of fluoride in toothpaste or water can be a reason for discoloration of teeth, especially brown discoloration.

  • Maintain good dental hygiene.
  • Brush your teeth daily at least three times. Even better brush them every time you eat, it helps to remove the plaque and prevent deposition of food particles.
  • Use a straw when you drink coffee or tea or soft drinks. It bypasses the front portion of teeth, thus reducing chances of beverage related brown spots on teeth.
  • Do not swish those drinks that you know can stain your teeth.
  • Rubbing baking soda with a toothbrush regularly is effective if you already have brown spots on your teeth and you are looking for a brighter smile.
  • Stop smoking.
  • You can approach your dentist. He may suggest cosmetic procedures for removing the brown spots.
