Chronic Nasal Congestion Causes
Simply put, nasal congestion pertains to the blockage of nasal airways and passages. These are usually caused by inflammation of the mucosal lining of the nose. The causes may be as simple as irritation to a life-threatening ailment, which is usually the case when it comes to chronic nasal congestion.

- Acid reflux disease. Chronic nasal congestion may occur side by side with acidity. Some regurgitation may reach as far as the nasopharyngeal area, which causes deliberate irritation to the mucosa.

- Saline nasal spray. A homemade decongestant may be used to help relieve inflammation. The salt content of the saline spray can help draw out the fluids within the inflammation site. These can be made with the use of baking soda and table salt combined in a pan and boiled with water. The cooled drops may be transferred into a nasal syringe.
- Removal of allergens. Some nasal congestion may be caused by irritants at home. Because these are always present, the individual may interpret it as a chronic form of nasal irritation. Simple environmental changes may be done by cleaning the air conditioner, and removing allergens such as wool, fur, and dust.
- Vaporizer. The steam of boiling water may be used as a natural vaporizer. Vinegar may also be added to reduce the inflammation at the nasal site.
- Spicy foods. Extremely aromatic foods may help clear the nasal tract. For example, chicken soup with lots of pepper may help clear the passages. Other examples are mint, basil tea, hot peppers, and wasabi.
- Hydration. Drinking a lot of fluids can help draw away mucus.
