I am 19 years old and hardly ever get a period. I can go for months without one the only time I got my period in order was when started taking birth control pills. But when I stopped taking them my periods become irregular. Does this mean I might be sterile?

You have to stop worrying as many girls during their early menstrual days may face the same problem. During this period, the body tries to adjust the hormonal changes that occur in the body. Give your body sometime to adjust the changes. If you are overweight, try to reduce your weight. Eat food that contains iron as low hemoglobin may cause changes in menstrual periods. At this age, it is too early to consider about sterility. Also test for thyroid problem. It is a simple blood test that may reveal any thyroid hormone abnormality.

I am 25 years old. I have been taking birth control pills for 4 months. Since then I have got terrible acne. I have stopped taking birth control pills now for the last 2 months. I have not got my menses after that. I am also experiencing sharp pains in my abdomen. Does this mean I am sterile?

The reason for irregularity in your menses is due to hormonal imbalance in your body. Hormonal imbalance may be due to many reasons. One of the reasons is due to polycystic ovarian disease, which is more common in young women. Acne eruption can also result from hormonal imbalance in young girls and women. You have to do various hormone blood tests and sonography of pelvis as advised by your physician to rule out sterility.

I am 20 years old and my husband is 26 years old. I used to take contraceptive pills after our marriage but stopped it because it was causing cramps. The pills gave me nausea. I have always had regular menses but after I started the pills my periods have become irregular. I get my periods every 3-4 months. I wish to conceive soon as I love kids. I have not got my periods since December. Is this infertility?
