Home Remedies For Lip Infection: Symptoms Of Fungal Infection On Lips

Lips are the visible part of the mouth in humans. Lips have many functions such as holding the food in the mouth, articulating sound and speech. Besides, being highly sensitive, lips can become erogenous during the act of intimate kissing.

Compared to the skin of face, the skin of lips is fairly thin.

It is made up of 3 to 5 cellular layers. Due to absence of sweat glands, the lip skin is vulnerable to easily dry out and get infected.

Infection On Lip

Infection on lip can be due to many causes. It can be a bacterial infection, a fungal infection or a viral infection.

Under normal circumstances, lips are not easily susceptible to infection even though there are many organisms found in oral cavity. This is partly due to the constant washing of the lips by saliva. The organisms are swallowed and destroyed in the stomach. Saliva has a mild anti bacterial activity.

Infective pathogens take advantage when the defense mechanism of the body becomes weak.

Recurrent trauma to the lips when wearing braces, or infection due to a lip bite is common. Bacteria gets a chance to invade the lip skin when it is bruised and open.

Recently I have developed black growths on my lips. It is very embarrassing for me to go out. My doctor gave me mouthwash but it has not helped cure the condition. It looks funny though it does not pain. I feel ashamed because such things are associated with HIV and AIDS patients. I have not tested myself for HIV. How can I be cured of this problem?

For the last few months, my lips are constantly peeling. They have a burning sensation. The lips are flaky. I have gone to a dermatologist. Allergy tests were done but it came normal. I take medications for blood pressure. I think it could be side effects of the medicine. I read on the internet that it could be due to imbalance in the body. I have used all kinds of creams and ointments to cure this. I also take multivitamins and probiotics. How can I heal my lips with home remedies?

From the description it appears to be an allergic manifestation. Apply ice over the area to reduce swelling. It will also soothe itching and burning sensation. Take few cubes on ice in a cloth and apply it on your lower lip area. If you find a bump or a boil in nearby area, you may have to consult your doctor. Moreover if the swelling increases or develops on other lip, talk to your doctor immediately.

I had severe cold. Due to constant blowing of nose, my top lip has developed hard skin. It itches and has started peeling. It is swollen too. I had yeast infections in the past. I am worried that this condition developed because of my cold and weakened immune system. My doctor says that it is just chapped lips but I think this is something serious. What could this be? What are the natural remedies to treat this?
