  • Pimples on the genital area are a condition known as Hidradenitis Suppurative. It is a case where the sweat gland surrounding the genital skin gets blocked causing infections and the infection comes out as small pimple-like lesions.

  • Since the genital area is typically covered most of the time, the area suffers more heat which causes it to sweat and then bacteria grows making it more susceptible to skin infections.

  • Also, excessive use of any oils and lubricants on the genital skin can also be a cause for pimples.

  • There are times when genital pimples are often confused with genital warts. This could pose a problem in treatment since pimples can be treated while warts cannot.

Causes of Pimples in Genital Area

  • It is important to know what commonly causes pimples in the genital area. Generally, causes can vary but they usually are:

  • Friction from clothing that rubs too frequently on the genital area or when the clothing is too tight.

  • Shaving or waxing

  • Use of harsh or abrasive soaps and over washing of the genital area

  • Stress

  • Poor personal hygiene

  • Hormonal changes especially in teenagers, pregnant women and during menstruation

  • Unhealthy diet

  • Dirty environment

  • Infection

Treatment for Pimples on Genital Area

  • Treatment for pimples in the genital area would usually depend on the cause of the pimple.

    Usually it is advisable to immediately consult with a doctor to be sure of the cause or if infection has set in.

  • If it is just a case of the common pimple or an ingrown hair, here are ways to treat it:

  • Always keep the genital area clean and dry the genital area thoroughly after baths. It is best to give that part some time to air-dry.

  • Make sure to wear only comfortable and loose fitting underwear so as to avoid friction on the affected area.

  • Never make an attempt of digging out an ingrown hair

  • Provide warm, wet compress on the affected area for at least 10 minutes, three times a day or as needed. Make sure that the compress is clean before using it.

  • If the cause of the genital pimple is an infection, a doctor is needed immediately. Generally, the treatment will depend upon the kind of infection a person has. It can range from antibacterial soaps, creams or medications and sometimes pain relievers are in order.
