Scurvy Diet:

There are many food elements that you should include in your daily diet to avoid scurvy contraction. If you want to stay away from this vitamin deficiency for as long as you live, then you must do something to sustain a healthy diet.

Here are some of the elements that you must have in your scurvy-free diet:

  • Ascorbic Acid: Commonly known as vitamin C, ascorbic acid is an essential food substance needed for the prevention of scurvy in humans. Acting as an antioxidant, this nutrient is important for the development and substance of healthy bones, blood vessels, ligaments, teeth, and gums. Ascorbic acid is also needed in the formation of collagen in the body. This is the primary building protein of the body that is needed by all the body organs. A diet rich in ascorbic acid must consist of such fruits and vegetables as citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli, green peppers, spinach, potatoes and cabbage.
  • Fruits: These should be an essential part of your diet if you want to stop yourself from getting scurvy. Oranges, limes, and lemons are among the fruits that contain high levels of vitamin C. Added to fruits bearing other types of vitamins, they are very helpful indeed.
  • Vitamin B1 or thiamine is also good in adding on to the diet and this could be found such foods as legumes and unprocessed grains. Fruits rich in vitamin A are also great additions to a scurvy-free diet.
