Bumpy Dry Rash
A bumpy dry rash is the cardinal manifestation of the skin condition known as eczema. Also known as atopic dermatitis, this condition is a hypersensitivity disorder. Itching and hyperirritability of the skin are some of the most consistent features, as the condition is due to increased amounts of histamine on the skin.
Bumpy Dry Rash on the Face
Rashes are generally termed as dermatitis. Aside from eczema, other possible forms of rashes may include irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis. These occur after exposure to allergens and irritants such as soap, hair dye, metal, or other chemicals. Experiencing bumpy dry rash on the face is similar to having rashes on the other parts of the body.
Bumpy Dry Rash Treatment
Guidelines for treatment include strategies to increase itching and scratching. These include:
- Cotton fabrics. Wearing light, cotton fabrics washed with a mild detergent will decrease the incidence of scratching.
- Avoid animals, dust, sprays, and perfumes. These allergens stimulate histamine release.
- Coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil can be used as a lotion to areas affected by a bumpy dry rash. It also softens the skin and keeps it smooth.
- Camphor. A teaspoon of camphor mixed with equal parts of sandalwood can be made into a paste and applied to the rashes.
- Neem and turmeric powder. A tablespoon of turmeric powder and equal part of Neem leaves can be used as paste.
- Nutmeg. A fresh piece of nutmeg can be rubbed or made into a paste.
- Fruits. Carrot and papaya seeds can be mashed and used for itching.
- Mustard oil. Around 200 grams of mustard oil boiled with 50 grams of Neem leaves can be used as daily ointment. There have been reports that continuous use for a year permanently cured patients from eczema.
