Excessive Head Sweating

Sweating is a normal function of the sweat glands of the body. Sweat glands are found in many parts of a person’s body including the palms, the armpits and the back. The head also experiences this normal condition. However, there are some people whose sweat glands in the head are producing more than enough sweat.

This excessive head sweating is also known as cranial hyperhidrosis. In other cases, the excessive sweating can be caused by certain medications, which doctors may not be aware of. Either way, excessive head sweating is often related to anxiety, nervousness, panic, or perhaps obsessive thoughts due to an overactive nervous system.

What Causes Excessive Head Sweating

Excessive head sweating can be caused by several factors including:

  • Over-activity of the thyroid, or hyperthyroidism, results to more production of sweat.
  • Profuse sweating of the head may also be caused by anxiety. Several people tend to sweat more particularly in the head when they are anxious.
  • When a woman undergoes menopause and experience hot flashes which is characterized by extreme heat in the body causing profuse sweating.
  • Always skipping meals can lead to low sugar in the blood. This can also result to excessive sweating.
  • Stress, anxiety, panic, and nervousness may also cause excessive sweating.
  • Certain medications may cause excessive sweating, especially when the underlying conditions involve a thyroid problem.
  • Frequent hair washing using certain shampoos may trigger head sweating.
  • An overactive and sympathetic nervous system is often the cause of a chronic excessive head sweating.

Excessive Head Sweating Treatment and Cures

There is a variety of ways to treat excessive head sweating. These are enumerated below.

  • Herbal teas such as sage tea can help stop sweating on the head. These teas have properties that soothe or relax the body and thus eliminating excessive head sweating. The sage tea, in particular, is a powerful remedy against hot flashes in the menopausal stage.
  • The tomato is rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins, pectin, and cellulose. It also contains lycopene which is a natural antioxidant. Drinking the juice of the tomato can reduce head sweating.
  • Using argentums nitricum, lupulus, and castroeum may help address perspiration that is related to stress. This also helps prevent sweating in other facial areas.
  • Having enough doses of syphilinum can help maintain the fluid levels of the body, enabling the control of body odor which often accompanies perspiration in excess.
