Does Lemon Juice Really Work in Removing Age Spots from Skin?

Removing age spots is mostly done due to aesthetic purposes. Though age spots are pretty harmless, they can be unpleasant on the skin and preventing age spots is the best way to make sure they do not appear. But once they do appear, the use of natural home ingredients like lemon juice is an excellent homemade skin care product that one can use to remove age spots.

Lemon Juice for Age Spots

  • Lemon juice is a very commonly used for culinary, medicinal and cosmetic purposes. A lemon contains Vitamin C and alpha hydroxyl acids that are both commonly found in expensive creams, toners and other beauty aids. As far as skin care is concerned, lemons are great for the skin to make it soft and supple.

  • Lemon juice as a cleanser or a toner is one of the most effective ingredient in cleansing one’s skin. It is widely used as treatment for many skin issues like acne, stretch marks, freckles and age spots. Age spots are, of course, one of the skin’s problems where lemon juice is widely used.

  • And since age spot removal treatment is quite expensive, the use of lemon juice as a natural remedy is a perfect alternative and will not cost as much.

How to Use Lemon Juice for Age Spots

The use of fresh lemon juice as a treatment for age spots is safe and can be accomplished easily. A person uses the lemon juice by:

  • Preparing the lemons. Squeeze the juice and put it in a clean container.

  • Soak a clean cotton ball with the lemon juice and rub it on the area with the spots.

  • Leave it for at least 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the skin’s sensitivity, before rinsing.

  • Repeat the procedure as often as needed. It can be done at any time of the day but evenings are preferable.

  • Refrain from applying lemon juice before going outdoors as lemon juice increases the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

  • At least once a week, mix lemon juice with sugar granules to scrub the skin.

The treatment my take a few months, but the acidity in the juice will help cause the spots to fade over time.

Use of Lemon Juice with Yogurt for Age Spots

Aside from the use of plain lemon juice for the age spots, the use of lemon juice together with yogurt is also helpful in speeding up the removal of age spots. The solution is prepared by:

  • Blending 2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoon of yogurt, small peeled potato and ½ small cucumber.

  • Press the puree through a fine-mesh strainer to remove lumps then apply the mixture directly to the age spots and cover with a warm towel.

  • Leave the mixture on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing.

  • Do this at least twice a week for best results.
