Scalp Neuritis

Scalp neuritis is a condition caused by vitamin deficiencies due to improper diet, injury of the nerves in the scalp areas, and certain medical conditions brought about by infection. Some of the medical aberrations that contribute to its development include tuberculosis, tetanus, diphtheria, and leprosy. Generally, the condition is not considered as serious and can be managed by home remedies.

Any form of neuritis including scalp neuritis involves the swelling or inflammation of the cranial or peripheral nerves of the somatic nervous system.

Scalp Neuritis Symptoms

  • Pain in the scalp which can happen across and on one side. Pain can also be experienced within topmost part of the neck.

  • Acute and chronic headaches which can be triggered by touching the scalp area.

  • Facial pain, specifically in the forehead. In severe cases, nearby muscles may be affected which can cause facial paralysis.

  • Scalp will turn red and eventually swell. Red patches can also be observed.

  • Numbness along with burning and tingling sensations in the scalp area and upper part of the head.

  • Pain that is sharp and poignant, especially when the condition is caused by an injury.

  • Dizziness

  • Hair loss which can be reversed when treatment is done on time.

  • Texture of the scalp turns from smooth to lumpy.

  • Itching of the scalp.

What are the Treatments for Scalp Neuritis

  • Application of warm and cold compresses. This should be applied alternately.

  • Administration of anti-inflammatory drugs.

  • Creams with vitamin B complex can relieve pain associated with the condition.

  • Eat balanced and healthy meals that contain good amounts of vegetables and fruits. Also include whole grains like whole wheat, raw milk, sprouted seeds, brown rice, and homemade cottage cheese. Eating the right kinds of food that provide proper nutrition is considered the best treatment option for the condition.

  • Drink Aloe Vera juice daily.

  • Take vitamin B supplements. Vitamin B, including all of its derivatives, has been proven to prevent the condition and help in managing numbness and pain associated with the condition.

  • Drink half a liter of carrot and spinach juice daily. These juices should be made raw.

  • Patients should take 2 to 3 half-hour Epsom salt baths in a weekly basis.

  • Drink a mixture of barley brew, buttermilk, and lime juice. Barley brew can be made by boiling one-fourth cup of barley in 2 quarters of water.

  • Drink soybean milk that is mixed with a teaspoon of honey every night before sleeping.

  • Coffee, tea, white bread, sugar, meat, fish and tinned foods should be avoided.

  • Perform moderate exercises like walking on a regular basis.

  • Do meditation exercises.

  • Adequate rest is recommended.
