Many people suffer from the different negative effects of having sweaty feet. This condition, also known as Plantar Hyperhidrosis, can affect the everyday life of a person affected with it in many ways. It can cause embarrassment, difficulty in wearing shoes, bromohydrosis or smelly feet, and fungal infection which is the worst.

A foot contains over 250,000 sweat glands and it can produce up to a half pint of moisture in a day. Those who have sweaty feet, have sweat glands that produce more than the average moisture in a day.

Sweaty Feet Causes

Sweaty feet can be caused by a number of reasons which include the following:

  • Hygiene is a factor that contributes to having sweaty feet. Poor hygiene can cause the growth of bacteria in the feet that causes these to become sweaty and smelly.
  • Wearing shoes or socks that are made of materials that can contribute to production of more sweat.
  • Toxins that are acquired from the food that the person eats. Foods that are high in saturated fats and alcoholic drinks can also result to sweaty feet.
    Lack of exercise may lead to the buildup of toxins in the body.
  • For some people, the sweat glands in the plantar area are producing more than enough moisture every day.
  • There are also medical conditions that cause the excessive sweat on the feet such as hyperthyroidism and anemia.

Home Remedies for Sweaty Feet

Some tips on how to cure sweaty feet include the following:

  • Promote proper hygiene. Wash feet daily with an antibacterial soap including the areas between the toes. Dry them up with a clean towel and to make all of the parts dry, use a hairdryer.
  • Avoid using very strong detergent soaps when washing socks.
  • Soak the feet in black tea for thirty minutes every day for a whole week, and then two times a week for the succeeding weeks. Dry the feet with a clean cloth and apply some foot powder to make it dry for a whole night. During the day, cover the feet with clean socks made of cotton and change the socks from time to time.
  • Apply an anti-perspirant product on the feet.
  • Soak feet in a mixture of a quart of water and two tablespoons of Epsom salt.
  • Apply baking soda or talc powder on the feet.
  • Dry shoes under the sun from time to time.
