A diverticula is a small pouch that can form anywhere in the gastro intestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and bowels. By and large, diverticulae develop in the large intestine. Having diverticula is called diverticulosis and when the pouch gets inflamed or infected, the condition is called diverticulitis.
